The History And Current Events Has Never Been Easier Essay

Recording history or current events has never been easier. Most of society has the entire world at their fingertips, our lives are spent online in a digital world. We tweet our daily routine on Twitter, Facebook our loved ones, and track different trends on Instagram. These underrated advances in technology are how we perceive ourselves as having surpassed preceding cultures. However, these advancements in technology have not always existed. Titus Livius, or Livy, a historian from the Roman Republic, dedicated his life to keeping a transcript of Rome’s history. Livy’s noble ambition was an eminently daunting task that was vital for Rome’s legacy. Livy was born in 59 BCE and died in 17 CE. He lived through the reign of Octavian, who was born in 63, became the sole ruler of roman empire in 31, accepted the surname Augustus in 27, and died in 14 CE. Livy was born in Patavium (Modern Padua) and this is shown through his work. It has been noted that Pollio, a fellow historian, mocked Livy for his accent. While there is no knowledge about his parents, several etchings from Padua have mentioned Livy’s family, but none are related back to a historian (Lendering).
